Cameron Browne- Living for the Lord
In Lane’s book, Landscapes of the Sacred, he states, “The stick reveals its fullness only because of the emptied Christ. Otherwise a stick is a stick is a stick. The mask, therefore, is not the holy; it only suggests access to the holy. Neither the stick, nor the falling leaf, nor the wonder of my own children ever reveals the fully formed face of Christ. The masks remain masks. Yet the poetic insight still holds true- Christ is the center. My eyes strain to discern the reality behind what I see. ‘Split the stick and there is Jesus; lift the stone and one finds the Lord’” (Lane 72). I believe that Lane wants the reader to understand that we humans are not Christ himself but underneath our skin we all have Christ within us. He borne our ancestors and in return borne us. Everything in the earth has a piece of the Lord within it. The mask that the passage is talking about I believe that is a metaphor for the chosen ones. Meaning that the Lord wants all the people of the earth to believe in him but there are only a selected few that practice and live for him. The Lord is sacred and he made this earth we now live on. He loves us all and wants us to be one with him. Live your life for the Lord and he will flourish your life with loving memories.
