I read a lot, but I hardly ever touch anything that is fictional. I actually have a pretty extensive "library" of automobile books covering many different subjects; the Cannonball! Run, Offenhauser, Edlebrock, the 32' Ford, and numerous car encyclopedias. I have a few current affair books too, my best being a pair of books by Rush Limbaugh (gasp!) from the early 90's. They give a interesting insight to the world back then, even though I was alive, I was too young to keep up with matters.
What I really read most of all is magazines, and I have boxes full of them. Every month I read a Car and Driver from front to back; every article, commentary, etc. Then about every other month I cough up $10 for a imported British Automotive journal to keep up with the latest in Europe. Naturally, I read that magazine almost word for word too. I also look over Popular Mechanics once a month too. The fact is, I read a lot, but it's all own to earth non-fiction stuff. If I could find even more technical publications, with in depth articles and diagrams I would be in paradise. I don't even bother reading the typical HotRod magazine anymore, because, well, I already know most of the stuff they publish (looking at the cool cars is a plus though). I've read a large majority of my encyclopedias and the latest one I picked up I've already spotted three major typos within less then a hour of reading. Makes me feel like a absolute nerd catching mistakes in a encyclopedia, but hey, at least it's on cars right. I know obscure makes, models, engines, people, etc. Too bad there isn't a class just dedicated to automobile at college, or the professor would probably have me teaching the class. I love to read, as long as it's about something I enjoy, which is pretty much just cars, and I can learn from it.
Sure, I could walk around with a copy of Plato's Republic and appear to be a intellectual elitist, but what the hell would I learn from that?
