Camping over Thanksgiving-Rebecca Culbreth
Over Thanksgiving break I went with a group of friends on a camping trip to a mountain in one of the counties. It took us about thirty minutes to reach our destination: a field on top of the mountain. When we stepped out of the truck, the sun was already halfway set, and the temperature was quickly dropping. The girls were in charge of putting up the tents while the guys went to look for firewood. It was so cold and windy that it took twice as long as it should have to get the tents together and once they were up, they started to blow away! But the freezing cold and whipping wind were worth it. If you stood in our campsite and looked in one direction you could see the amazing sunset casting shadows and brilliant colors all over the mountainside. If you faced the other way it was already mostly dark and you could see the lights from the city a little ways off. It occurred to me that this place had something sacred about it. It was the in-between, the medium between the city and the wilderness. Even though it reached 20 degrees that night, it was worth it to be in that sacred place.
