Landscapes2- Rebecca Culbreth

"The earth is the human body writ large... Touching the earth, therefore, becomes a way of entering more fully the deeper mystery of ourselves and God." p.96

This quote brings me, once again, back to my thoughts of the importance of people being in and around nature. The earth, in many ways, is like the human body. It has needs, like "food" and water, it has many different parts, and those parts are totally different from each other. Everyone spends a great deal of their life trying to discover themself. What people don't see is that by being close to nature, which is so much like us, we can easily find our much more about ourselves. That is why it is so important for everyone to interact with nature in some way: camp, retreats, hiking, camping, etc. Even a child who plants a seed in a styrophoam cup learns about nature and people: you have to give it food (fertilizer) and a place to live (the cup) and water, and you have to take care of it in order for it to grow. Even with the best care, though, it will still eventually die. These lessons are invaluable.
