"A sacred place is most readily defined, culturally at least, as a site over which conflicting partes disagree- a place about which people are willing to fight and even die." p.43
How scary a concept, to think that we might be expected to give our lives for something that is important to us. But would we? It's easy to just say I would, but I really believe that I would. I liked the story about the indian tribe fighting in court for the rights to their sacred space that was being defaced by people. While the ending was sad, as the Indians did not get the protection for the site that they wanted, it still showed a lot about people and how they can react when something they love is disrespected. Sacred places are different for every person and for every religious sect. Because they are different, every person and group will react differently. Often, in history, people have fought and died for their religious views. In today's world, while some have much respect for peope with different views and religions, others are still fighting and dying for them.
