Personal Spiritual Place Lindsey Ceniviva

The place that has the most spiritual impact on me would have to be my walk-in closet at home. I know that sounds odd, but it is where I always go when I need to clear my head. After a long day, or a fight with a family member, or boyfriend, my closet becomes my retreat. I lie on my clothes on the floor and close my eyes, getting lost in my thoughts. My closet provides a secluded, quiet and relaxing environment. It is the only place where I can efficiently reflect on my life and my actions. It is a place that is my own and only I can appreciate its significance. My closet’s comfortable, safe surroundings are calming and spiritually freeing. Even though it is not considered very spiritual, my closet gives me a sense of clarity in this world of chaos.
After hearing other people’s spiritual places, I realized that all individual’s retreat locations include similar characteristics. Most places provide a sense of freedom, beauty, intimacy, community, and safety. Although some were a place of central activity and crowdedness, others were a place of privacy and exclusiveness. A lot of the places were associated with a specific memory that showed a time of personal growth within one’s life. All of our spiritual places bestowed upon us a newly found perspective on life and we can always count on our place to do so.
