Erika Sikon: My outside running adventures
I like to be outside and get exercise. Last year I went running and walking a lot in and around my neighborhood. There was a little bit of every type of scenery when it came to the path I would take. I would start at my house. I would have to run about a half a mile out of my neighborhood. I run out of my comfort zone and away from my home. I would pass the neighbors and familiar faces and houses. I would reach rout 17. Yet the side walk twisted and turned and brought you into the woods and across a bridge that ran alongside rout 17. I would then emerge from the woods and see condos, a wall and rout 17. I would continue running on the twisting and turning side walk. I would then reach the traffic light in which I need to cross rout 17. I would wait and then cross the road. I would run down the new street toward my destination. On one side of me are apartments on the other a shopping center. Looking straight ahead you would see my destination, Eagle Harbor Park. I would walk to my starting point to my run. Then I would start my “run.” I would always start near the bridge, but do not cross the bridge. I take the path around the bridge on a slight incline and go around. I try to take the longest path possible. I then meet up with the bridge again on the other side. I then follow the path around the water’s edge. I see house and meet people along the way. I see animals and trees. I listen to the fountains. I motivate myself to keep running around and not stopping till I have hit my mark always pushing for further and further. Once I have hit my finish line I continue to walk around and enjoy the view of the park. I then eventually tire of walking around and around and start to run back towards my house using the same path I came on.
