Landscapes of the Sacred-Chelsea Gilbert

Time and place are two very interesting concepts. It's strange how we can be in the "right place and the right time" for one thing and "in the wrong place and the wrong time" for another. I think when you are experiencing spirituality or are in a place you consider sacred, it is exactly the same way. A place that you consider sacred is not going to be one where you had a bad occurence there, but rather one that seemed perfect in every way. One that gives relief to the mind and calms your emotions, or sparks something good inside you. Words that are used to commonly describe place are topos and chora. Topos, found in the book, is a place that would be most common to everyone, but chora is how you would describe the place after something significant happens. For instance, a football field can be just a type of playing field for a team but if the team wins the state championship there, it is most likely to be a chora for the players afterward.
